Caught in Love, Chaos, and Long Layovers

Okay, first things first , we’re soorrrryyyyy, we know.... our post is late. Honestly, we have been playing the ultimate game of catch-up, and honestly, we deserve a gold medal at this point.
For a little context, the one time we decided to take a holiday, just a tiny, responsible, “we definitely won’t fall behind” kind of break, turned into the adventure of all adventures. We went to visit Isaac’s home in the ridiculously beautiful landscapes of New Zealand, fully expecting peace, relaxation, and maybe a few smug “look at our perfect lives” moments.
And to be fair… it was dreamy.
I mean ... just look at it !
(Of course, we had to bring our film camera along—because it wouldn’t be a reel wedding holiday if we didn’t sneak in a few shots!)
...Until it very much wasn’t.
Unhelpful airlines, unexpected, extended layovers and a surprise week-long stay in Melbourne later… we finally made it back to London. The kind of journey that makes you question everything, your plans, your patience, your choice of airline but also somehow becomes a story you won’t stop telling later.
Honestly, if patience earned air miles, we’d be flying first class.... for life !
Anyway, after all that chaos, delays, and mild emotional damage, we’re back. Slightly frazzled, highly caffeinated, and ready to go. So as promised… here is your next Reel Weddings post. Yes, it’s a little late, but we’re calling it ... fashionably delayed.
Now, onto the real stuff.
There’s something kind of funny about running a wedding photography and videography business while also being an actual couple ourselves. We spend our days capturing love stories, the big moments, the quiet ones, the little looks that say everything. ... all while building our own in the background.
Reel Weddings isn’t just a business. It’s us ... me and Isaac ... figuring things out as we go. No big team, no safety net, just two people with cameras, ideas, and a slightly concerning amount of optimism.
And trust us ... unfortunately, it’s not all champagne and golden-hour magic.
We’re the photographers, videographers, editors, marketers, planners, finance team… basically, if there’s a job title, we’ve probably claimed it at some point. Some days it genuinely feels like we need clones. Or at least one very organised assistant.
Some days are incredible. Everything flows, the shots hit, the edits come together, and we feel like yes, this is exactly where we’re meant to be.
Other days? It’s more like dragging a very stubborn boulder uphill… in bad lighting… with low battery… and a looming deadline.
But weirdly, we still love it.
Even when the doubts creep in.
And they do, especially when we’re surrounded by insanely talented photographers and videographers who make everything look effortless. It’s inspiring, but also slightly humbling in a “wow okay we have some work to do” kind of way.
But that’s also what pushes us.
Because more than anything, we want Reel Weddings to feel real. Personal. Intimate. Not just polished for the sake of it, but full of actual feeling. Stories that people can connect with, not just scroll past.
And yeah, we dream about having a team one day. People we trust, who share the vision, who can jump in when we’re juggling a million things and help take it all to the next level.
But right now, it’s just us.
Showing up. Shooting. Editing. Learning. Laughing at the chaos. Backing each other. And, occasionally, debating (passionately) over which shot is definitely the better one.
Perseverance isn’t some big dramatic moment. It’s the quiet stuff.
Finishing edits when you’re exhausted .Picking up the camera again running on a couple hours of sleep. Answering that one last email. Choosing to keep going, even when you’re not 100% sure where it’s all leading.
We don’t have it all figured out. Not even close.
But we’re learning. Growing. Getting better. And doing it all side by side.
So here we are, back from the delays, the detours, and the slightly chaotic travel saga, ready to keep building Reel Weddings.
Because love stories don’t wait… and apparently, neither do flight delays !
